Jersey residents have voted against replacing British time with a European model.
Nearly 24,000 of the island's residents went to the polls with more than 72% voting against the move to Central European Time (CET).
The States of Jersey will now make the final decision as the result is not binding.
Before Wednesday's referendum business leaders said moving the clocks forward one hour would damage the economy by putting the island out of step with London.
Jersey Finance Limited said it would mean longer hours in the office for workers and 70% of members said they were against any change.
The vote for CET was led by Senator Jimmy Perchard who claimed an extra hour of daylight would benefit the health of residents, the environment and tourism.
Three mechanics are to be questioned on suspicion of manslaughter by a judge investigating the Madrid plane crash that killed 154 people in August.
The judge has called two mechanics who checked the plane before it took off and crashed, as well as Spanair's head of maintenance at Madrid's Barajas airport.
Earlier this month the first official report into the passenger jet crash said investigators were focusing on a problem with the plane's wing flaps and the failure of a cockpit alarm to sound.
It said no conclusions had been reached as to why the plane went down on August 20.
